They say that time flies when you’re having fun. Well, the last year flew by making my decision of quitting my full-time job to pursue blogging full-time, even more, the right decision. On March 2, 2018, I said goodbye to going into an office 5 days a week and took my part-time passion to full-time status!
I remember thinking, “I want to quit, I want to quit.” I had gone back and forth over and over for about 4 months. But like a lot of people who are scared to take a huge leap and follow their dreams, it was scary and not something that I was programmed to do.
I grew up in a household full of educators. My parents were teachers and college professors with high degrees, my dad has his doctorate, and it was always instilled in me that you go to college and work in the field that you have your degree in. Well, my degree is in Journalism and while I use it for blogging, a lot of people don’t think blogging or being a social media influencer is a real thing. So you can imagine what my family and other people said when they found out I was quitting a stable paying job that I had for the last 4.5 years.
I was at my breaking point at my job and I made one more call to my dad crying. He had already talked me off the ledge of quitting numerous times. This time was different, and he said, “I think it’s time.” To me, that was a blessing and when I came back from my first New York Fashion Week I put in my two weeks and never looked back.
I truly believe that if you work hard good things will come. Did you see Lady Gaga’s Oscar-winning speech? And once I went full-time big things started happening! I never read the book The Secret, but I swear I believe that what you put out in the universe comes back to you two-fold.
In the past year, I was on the news twice, featured in an Orange County prominent magazine, worked with amazing brands and made good money doing it! Yes, you heard me! Bloggers and Social Media Influencers make money! 😉
In addition to the big change in my career life, I also noticed a change in me. I was happier, less stressed, more confident overall and that change carried over to my relationship with Dave and friends and family.
I’m not writing this to brag. I’m writing this because if I can take the leap and change my life to do something I love, you can too! Don’t listen to everyone around you because they might not understand and honestly, it’s not their life. People are always going to have their own opinions on what’s the “right thing to do” and it might not line up with what will make you truly happy in life.
After my mom passed away, I found that life is too short to be miserable doing something just because it’s the conventional thing to do. So, live your life, do what makes you happy and YOU WILL FLOURISH!
