Happy New Year Everyone! Usually this is two separate blog posts; one where I talk about the highs and lows of the past year and one where I break down my goals for the new year. I decided to combine them because honestly there weren’t any lows for 2019. It was a great year in all parts of my life and a year that I truly grew as a blogger and person.
2019 in Review
2019 started differently than in 2018. I stepped away briefly from the SoCal Blogger Babes and by the end of 2019 I was part owner of Blogger Babes and came back to overseeing the Orange County Chapter. While I had reasons for stepping away initially, I now know sometimes you need time to reevaluate and see how important something is and how much value there is.
2019 was the best year for my blog. I not only did the best since I started financially, I’m not bragging, but I quit my full-time job to do this so the fact that I’m making a living and love what I do, makes it so satisfying! I also worked with a lot of amazing brands and hosted two sip and shops with Gorjana, one during NYFW. The one thing that stands out the most in 2019 was that I gave back by working with Susan G. Komen and raising enough money with Katie Novack to buy 63 turkeys for the Thanksgiving Dinner at the Midnight Mission in Los Angeles. Hint: Giving Back more might be one of my 2020 goals.
2019 was also the year the Dave retired, which affected both of us. When he called me and told me he gave his two weeks’ notice, he was planning on doing it in 2020, I was shocked and a little nervous. I mean I work from home and now he was going to be home, every day. But I love him being home and I think we have a better relationship now. He’s not stressed anymore; he does a ton of stuff around the house and he doesn’t mind going out more because he doesn’t have to get up for work anymore.
2019 was the year I expanded my fitness career and joined LA Fitness and Loco Cycle. While I only stayed at LA Fitness for about two months, it wasn’t a great fit for me, I’ll be celebrating my year anniversary at Loco in about two months. I also started teaching Yoga again, something I took a long hiatus from because I thought I wasn’t a “yogi.” Returning to it was the best thing I ever did and something that boosted my confidence because guess what, the yoga members like me! I also taught some corporate fitness classes, one of which was at Oakley, and I really hope that continues in 2020 because it’s super cool and so different than teaching in a gym or studio setting.
Goals for 2020
Some of my goals for 2020 stemmed from experiences in 2019. Maybe I’m just getting older or seeing what’s really important in life, but I want to use my platform for something greater on a regular basis. Don’t get me wrong, you will still see a ton of fashion posts and posts with my cute baby Violet, but you’ll also see something more that I hope will push other influencers to do the same.
Give Back More in 2020
In 2019 I worked with Susan G. Komen, Midnight Mission and OC Rescue Mission. Each time, I learned something about the organization and myself. Sometimes we get stuck in our comfortable bubble, mine being Orange County, and forget that there’s a whole other world out there. In 2020 I plan to give back by volunteering my time more in different capacities, donating clothes and other items on a regular basis and working with a non-profit in some capacity. My mom passed away from lung cancer, she never smoked a day in her life, and I would love to learn more about it and help raise awareness for lung cancer in general and educate the younger generation on how dangerous vaping is.
Get Organized in 2020
This is a goal of mine every year, but this time I’m taking big steps to ensure it happens! I mentioned above that I plan to donate on a regular basis, well that’s true. I also plan on getting back on Poshmark and selling some items too. Whatever I do, I have way too much stuff and I want to declutter once and for all. I plan to hire someone to help me because honestly if I don’t have someone overseeing the “Cleanout of 2020,” it will not get done. I can teach 8 classes a day, but you ask me to clean something or do laundry, and I can find excuses to procrastinate for days.
Be More Responsible in 2020
The title is a little misleading, because I’m extremely responsible when it comes to 95% of things. But it’s the 5% of things that are usually the practical and important things, that I’m lazy about. Case and point, doing my taxes and getting my car serviced. If you heard my brakes right now, you would all cringe. It’s basically metal on metal and I wait until that sound or basically until I have no oil in my car before I go get my car serviced. It’s so dumb. I also wait until the day before, sometimes the day of to do my taxes, which also results in a huge fight between Dave and I. This year I’m vowing to not wait until the last minute on practical, but important things. P.S. I’m making an appointment for my car tomorrow! I promise!!
Travel More in 2020
In 2019 I went to New York three times. It’s my favorite city ever and while I’ll go there twice in 2020, I also want to travel to Europe with Dave. I’ve been to Europe twice, once after high school and once after college, but Dave and I have never been on a big trip other than Hawaii. Dave’s sister moved to Germany late last year so now there’s an actual reason to go!! Stay tuned for more details!!!
Here’s to an amazing year for all of us and whatever the future holds good or bad, just know that we all grow from our experiences and I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. Cheers to 2020 and as always thank you for all your support! Xoxo Alison
